Clarice Fay Weninger

August 5, 1934 - May 13, 2023

In Loving Memory

Clarice Fay Weninger

Clarice was born on August 5, 1934 at home on a farm near Richmound, Saskatchewan, and passed away on May 13, 2023 in Kelowna, BC.

At a very young age, she and her family moved to Kelowna and settled in the Rutland area where she was proud to call home. She attended the one-room-school in Black Mountain until her sister, Viola, was old enough to start school. Together, they attended Rutland Elementary and made the trek to school each day from George Day’s property in Black Mountain. Once Mom finished school, she started her working years in her community and was always able to find lots of work in the Rutland area.

Johnny and Clarice met at one of the many dances they attended.  They were married December 27, 1952 and started their family soon after.  Daryl was born in 1953, followed by Gail in 1955, Wayne in 1956, Kevin in 1959 and Trent in 1968.  She was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mom was artistic and enjoyed learning to paint and working on her many crafts and flower arrangements.  She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes.  She started with Birthday and Anniversary cakes and it wasn’t long until she was asked to make custom themed wedding cakes.  Her first was for Gail’s wedding and her last was for Trent’s wedding, with more than 50 cakes in between.

Mom loved to garden.  Her yard could rival any of those found in the latest edition of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.  Her gardening and flower arrangement talents lead to many requests including arrangements for Premier Bill Bennett’s many garden parties as well as the rose gardens at Cedar Creek Winery.

After Johnny passed, Mom went on to work at Lakeview Memorial Gardens until her retirement.  After retiring, she spent many enjoyable hours with her Grandkids making crafts down in her craft room.

Mom had a special way of connecting with the people she met and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sisters, Viola Weninger and Idella Roshinsky, daughter Gail (Randy), sons Wayne (Doreen), Kevin (Beverly) and Trent (Tamara), her 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  Clarice was sadly predeceased by Johnny, her husband of 35 years, who passed on March 12, 1988, her parents Martin and Freda Yeast, brother Larry Yeast, her son Daryl Weninger and her grandson Travis Weninger.

Her Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 12:00pm at Sheraton Four Points Hotel (5505 Airport Way, Kelowna, BC).

A private family interment will be held May 24, 2023.
