In Loving Memory
Barbara Anne Deruiter
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful mom, Barbara Anne DeRuiter, nee Stair. She fought a courageous battle, but the Lord called her home September 22nd, 2023.
She leaves behind the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Jasper DeRuiter, their five children, their spouses, 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Barb was a kind and generous person often blessing those in need in anonymity. Barb’s discerning heart enabled her to reach out to those needing a phone call, a card, a warm smile, or a visit. Barb had a green thumb, was a talented sewer, knitter, baker and crocheter. She had the best laugh and a keen sense of humor. Her organizational skills were legendary along with her sense of order. Barb juggled many roles: farmer, caregiver, cook, seamstress, retail worker, bookkeeper extraordinaire, and volunteer. She was also a caring, compassionate, neighbor and friend. She was privileged and honoured to travel the world with the love of her life, Jasper.
Barb’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and sincerest appreciation to Doctor Lindsay Hayward, medical staff at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, and the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the North Okanagan Hospice Society https://nohs.ca/donate/
A Celebration of Life will be held in Fort St. John, BC in summer 2024.

Barb was a very special person.Very caring. She worked with us girls in the kitchen in Dawson Creek cooking a hot meal for seniors every Monday morning. We enjoyed her and we were sad to see her leave for Vernon.Sending sympathy to all of her family. She will be missed.
How beautiful to read and feel the love of you as family towards Barbara. And how beautiful it describes who she was and who she will remain in our hearts.
Love,
Jaap, Kitty and family
Oh my gosh, so sorry to hear this. Barb was one of my favorite aunts and I have very fond memories of being in Fort St. John in the summers and picking berries. All the aunts making pies and the great food and company with all our cousins. Lots of laughter and love from everyone and she gave the best hugs. She will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to all my cousins and Uncle Jasper and Barbs’ sisters and all of her extended family and friends. Sincerest apologies for not responding sooner. God bless.
