In Loving Memory

Barbara Ann Galuska (Nee: Officer)

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara Ann Galuska the afternoon of Saturday, December 23, 2023, with her devoted husband at her side, at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Vernon, BC. Barbara was predeceased by her parents: George and Yvonne Officer. Barb was born July 25th, 1938 in Vancouver, and spent her childhood in the Kitsilano area. She had many fond memories of growing up in that area. After graduating from Highschool Barb went on to obtain her LPN designation and worked in hospitals in Vancouver and around BC. Barbara moved from Toronto in 1974 and met the love of her life, John Galuska, in Sicamous, BC. Barbara and John were married in 1976 in Port Clements, BC, on Haida Gwaii, where they lived for 8 years enjoying the ocean, outdoors, fishing, camping and having many happy memories with family and friends. Barbara was very talented with a paintbrush, capturing scenes on canvas from special places she and John discovered on their many trips. She loved camping, boating and especially travelling in their RV. Barb and John camped and wandered in their RV all over BC, Alberta, Western USA and down to the tip of the Baja, Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. Barb leaves behind her husband of 48 years, John; her children Steve (Kim) Wallace, Autumn Wallace; her stepchildren John (Jan), Eileen (Dave), Richard (Corol), Doug (Helen), Stanley (Joanne), Gary, Elizabeth (George), daughters-in-law Joyce Galuska and Shannon Galuska; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

As per Barbara’s wishes, there will be no service. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

  1. kathleen isabelle scott (nee officer) says:

Oh Auntie!!!! I miss you. I loved you. You were born on the same date as my mom, Olivene, your brother’s wife – July 25th. And you both passed at the same age of 86.

Your daughter Autumn, looks exactly like you, from photos I’ve seen. Life is weird, right? I think the Officer clan was cursed from the start but I do my best to fall into the love of the Scotts, my husband Roger, whom I’ve been with for the past, so far, 45 years.

I miss you. We had fun. I loved you. You were always so good to me. I hope you talk to my mom and if so, tell her I loved her too.

    Kathleen

  2. Martha says:

I just wanted to say hello and that I was very sorry to hear of Barbara G’s passing. My mother was in the bed across from her at Vernon hospital. I enjoyed a few good chats with John as we waited for dinner to be served.

Our family was witness to the wonderful outpouring of love and affection by Barbara’s family and especially her husband who stayed by her side each night while we tended to our mother Mary. I know my mother benefitted from the regular visitors to her neighbour.

We are sorry for your loss but I know your lives will be rich with memories after a life well lived has passed.

Martha on behalf of the Whiteside family
