In Loving Memory

Barbara Ann Dieno

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother (“Nanny”), great-grandmother, and partner, Barbara Ann Dieno. Barbara lived a full, vibrant life, and we take comfort in knowing her journey continues with peace—and perhaps more adventures—beyond this one.

Born in Blackpool, England on September 22, 1939, Barbara immigrated to Canada aboard the Empress of England in 1964 with her two young children. She spent more than 25 years in Victoria, BC, raising her children and working at the G. R. Pearkes Clinic for children with disabilities, before making Kelowna her home. In her early years there, she worked in several retail stores at Orchard Park Mall, most fondly at TanJay, where she delighted in helping find that perfectly stylish outfit.

It was in Kelowna that Barbara met the love of her life, Celeste, at the Canadian Italian Club. Together they shared many years of dancing, traveling—especially to Mexico for their cherished winter stays—and building a close circle of friends. Both were dedicated volunteers in Kelowna’s bocce community, and in 2019 they received the Community Sports Award in recognition of their contributions. Barbara was an avid bocce player and proudly earned a first-place medal among seniors across Canada. She and Celeste traveled throughout BC for the Senior Games, consistently placing with distinction.

Barbara is predeceased by her cherished partner, Celeste Bazzana (2024). She is lovingly remembered by family in England: her sister Jean (Jeff, deceased); nephew Mark (Kara) and great-nephew Anthony (Jess); nephew Steve (Jane) and great-niece Emma (Sam).
In Canada, she is survived by her son Alan (Angie); granddaughters Chelsea (Matthew) with great-grandsons Walker, Owen, and Reece; granddaughter Larrisa (Darryl) with great-granddaughter Eleanor; her daughter Kim (Dan); grandson Michael (Alyssa) with great-granddaughters Alyvia and Abigail; granddaughter Angel (Daryl); and grandson Chris (Deklyn, deceased).

Barbara was endlessly proud of her children and grandchildren, who will forever remember her as their polite, small, and mighty Nanny. We will always love her and look forward to the day we hear her stories again. We were all truly blessed to have her in our lives.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate nurses and aides on the Patten Wing at Pleasant Valley Manor for their kindness and care.

A celebration of life will be held during the spring of 2026.
