In Loving Memory

Angela Marie Otto

Angela Otto passed away peacefully on January 31st, 2026, at the Vernon Hospice House, surrounded by family, after a multi-year and courageous battle with cancer.

Angela was born on May 25th, 1963, in Victoria, B.C, spending time growing up in Sooke, Hudson Hope, and Vernon, B.C., raised by her loving parents, Ruth and John Poschner.

Shortly after graduating from Vernon Secondary School in 1981, Angela would follow a calling to join Youth with a Mission, where she spent time in Belize, spreading the word of Christ and immersing herself in Belizean culture. Through Y.W.A.M, Angela developed a deep love for travel and a respect for cultures far different than her own.

In the late 1980s, Angela lived in Armstrong, B.C, where she attended Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church. It is at Glad Tidings where she met the love of her life, Volker Otto. Their love burned bright and true, and on April 15th, 1989, the two wed in Armstrong, B.C. They shared a beautiful relationship built upon a foundation of faith, devotion, and living life to the fullest. They spent time living in Armstrong before moving to Drake, Saskatchewan, where they built many strong friendships, and eventually, moved back to Vernon, B.C.

Angela had a stern sense of justice, but also had a deeply caring heart, and it was the combination of the two that allowed her to thrive in her various careers in the social service field. She had a special interest in helping children experiencing difficult childhoods, a skill that helped immensely with her two adopted children, Ben and Cas. She had a long career in probation before moving to social work, and she ended her working career at the Ministry of Children and Family Development. She was deeply respected and well-loved wherever she worked.

On June 10, 2000, Angela and Volker officially adopted Ben and Cas, a day that Angela held near and dear. She embraced motherhood fully and wholeheartedly, ensuring her children were cared for in all aspects. She was a devoted and proud mother who poured her energy into creating a home filled with joy, adventure, love and humour. She never stopped believing in who her children could become and walked with them through the hard times and the good times, her support never wavering.

Angela and Volker shared a deep passion for travel and the outdoors. Together, they found great joy in exploring new places, whether that meant journeys abroad or camping throughout the Canadian wilderness. They appreciated exploring the less-visited areas on the coast of Mexico or sitting under the stars around a campfire deep in the woods. They cherished the memories they made side by side on the roads less travelled.

Their staff provided Angela and our family with such kindness and compassion, ensuring she was comfortable and cared for in a beautiful way.  Their support allowed our children to simply be her children, and for me to be her husband during her final days. We are deeply grateful to the entire team for the roles that they played in looking after my wife.
