It is with sadness the family of Allen Leroy (Roy) Bowie announce his passing in the Vernon Hospital on September 29, 2023, at the age of 93.
Roy is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Gail Holman grandson Andrew, brother Jim (Val), 7 nieces and nephews and their respective families.
Roy grew up in Armstrong BC, and took teacher training after high school. He taught elementary school for three years while taking courses to become a high school shop teacher. He taught school in many communities including Salmo, Clinton, Bralorne, where he met and married his wife Jean, Ocean Falls, Fort St John, and 25 years in Williams Lake until retirement. Roy was a member of the Lions club for 25 years in Williams Lake, and took in many social events, and stampede festivities. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, downhill skiing, dancing, and weekly poker games. After retirement, Roy and Jean returned to Armstrong, where they were lucky to have 36 years of retirement, which included several trips as snowbirds to Arizona, downhill skiing at Silver Star, many fishing and camping trips, and several summer vacations at Chimney Lake. For the last 5 years, Roy and Jean were residents of Heaton Place seniors residence in Armstrong, BC.
There will be no funeral service by request. A small gathering will take place at a later date.
