Andrew “Andy” Cumming Hume

July 22, 1947 – September 8, 2024

Surrounded by the love of his family, Andy passed away peacefully with his loving wife Barb, holding his hand and his favourite music playing in the background on September 8th, 2024 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

Born in Scotland, Andy emigrated to Canada at the age of 4 with his parents and siblings, eventually settling in Surrey, BC.  It was there that Andy met and married his high school sweetheart, started working in aviation and where his two children were born.

Andy was a wonderful husband, great Dad, and amazing Grandpa.  He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Barb, son Jamie (Cindy), daughter Angie (Dave), grandchildren Ashley (Chris), Matt (Chelsea), Zi, Desiree (Kyler) and Logan, and great-grandchildren Blaine, Arianna & Keira with another great-grandchild due in December.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  A celebration will be held to honour his life next Spring.

In his memory, a donation can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or if you are able, please donate blood with Canadian Blood Services.

Dear Barb and family, I learned of Andy’s passing this week and the world will be a less happy place without him. We worked in YYC together and those were the best days. I remember it as 10 years of fun and comaraderie as we worked to turn airplanes through some really challenging times. I remember taxiing a DC10 sideways with Andy as we slid towards the gate ….with 200 passengers watching! He never lost his cool and was a true professional. He was always there when anyone needed help and his big heart was matched only by his sense of humour. Andy made a difference to everyone’s life and he will be missed. Please look after yourself and know that we are all thinking of you at this difficult time.
    With our condolences
    Bill and Susan Verran
