Gary Louis Messner
July 9, 1956 - May 1, 2023
In Loving Memory
Gary Louis Messner
Gary Louis Messner, born on July 9th, 1956, in Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully in Vernon Hospital on May 1st, 2023, with his children by his side, following health complications. He had returned from four months of life full-filling adventures down south.
Gary’s formative years were mostly spent in Springbank, Alberta. After completing his mechanic’s licence, his first business venture led him to Invermere, BC, where he met his wife, Yvonne. In the early 80’s they moved to the sunny Okanagan to raise their family. Gary’s career included various businesses and he always had a ‘deal on the go’. He took great pride in his work and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Despite his heart condition, Gary’s work ethic was nothing short of legendary. When he wasn’t fixing something he found time for his many interests including being a proud member of the Coyotes softball team, bowling, trips down south, attending car shows with his ’55, pickle ball, golf, hunting, fishing, pizza nights, and fixing up the infamous bush property.
Gary lived life on his own terms and enjoyed a full social calendar, filled with many diverse and meaningful friendships. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and knowledge. Gary is survived by his children, Amy Messner (Amiel Logan) and Paul Messner (Jen Messner), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Oliver, Juliet, Madisen, and Major and numerous foster children who were a big part of his life. He is also survived by 4 younger siblings, Ray (Donna), Greg (Myra), Don (Sonya), and Laurie (Randy Patton). Gary was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne Messner in 2020, as well as his parents, Ruth and Louis Messner.
Amy and Paul would like to thank those who cared for and helped dad in their many ways, especially after the passing of our Mom, the love of his life, who kept him on the straight and narrow the best she could.
If so desired, a memorial donation may be made to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, www.nohs.ca
A celebration of life for his family and friends will be held to honour Gary’s memory on
Saturday, July 8th. It will be in true pizza Monday fashion, casual and drop in from
4:00pm-8:00pm. Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
