Barry Palichuk

Barry will be forever remembered by Carol, his loving wife and best friend of 48 years. Barry always liked to say it was officially 48 years but unofficially 49. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and so many unforgettable memories.

Barry is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Heather (Nathan); his son, Jody; and his grandsons, Blaise and Remy, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He will also be deeply missed by his sisters, Margie and Liz (Jim); his brothers, Tom (Annette), Anthony (Christine), Ed (Jennifer), and Michael (Tammy); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Barry was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Barbara Palichuk, and more recently by his brother-in-law, Russ.

Barry had a way of turning moments into memories and valued every opportunity to spend time with those he held dear. There was always plenty of laughter at every gathering, and those moments of teasing, storytelling, and reminiscing together were among his favorites.

Barry was one of the hardest-working people you could meet. He was never one to sit still and was always working on a project, lending a hand, or finding something that needed doing. Whether he was woodworking in his garage or in the backyard, tending to his ever-expanding garden, or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen, he found fulfillment in keeping busy. He loved gardening so much in recent years that each year he managed to make the garden a little bigger, until there was no room left to expand. And then he built planter boxes. He thought you could never have too many plants!

A talented woodworker, Barry spent countless hours crafting toys and furniture for those closest to him, as well as children’s hockey sticks, squirrel feeders, cabinets, shelves, keepsake boxes, and many other one-of-a-kind creations. Each piece reflected his creativity, generosity, and care, and his handcrafted gifts will remain precious reminders of the love he put into everything he made.

Despite his constant need to keep busy, Barry also knew how to have fun. He enjoyed playing Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong on one of his Nintendo systems and could often be found tackling another level when he took a break from his many projects. Whether he was building, gardening, cooking, gaming, or planning his next adventure, Barry approached life with energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

He also treasured the many happy times spent with loved ones at the family cabin at Summit Lake, BC, a place where he found so much happiness and was the setting for more memories than could ever be counted. This past summer, Barry was able to check a lifelong item off his bucket list when he and Carol traveled to Canada’s Maritimes together, an adventure he had dreamed of for many years and one that brought them both great joy.

Barry will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to family, his strong work ethic, and his ability to make those around him feel welcome and loved. Though he will be greatly missed, the love he shared, the memories he created, and the laughter he brought to those around him will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
