In Loving Memory

Douglas Albert Prefontaine

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our brother Doug Prefontaine on July 20th. After a short 3 month battle with cancer, he died with his wife Anita at his side.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Doug was the fourth son of Henri and Franky Prefontaine and a proud product of the Inglewood neighbourhood and the infamous 130th Street gang. He attended St. Andrew Catholic School before graduating from Archbishop MacDonald Catholic High School.

After high school, Doug ventured out into the world, spending time in North Africa before returning to Canada and eventually settling in Kamloops. He worked alongside his father before becoming co-manager of the David Thompson Motor Inn with his best friend and brother, where he was one of the youngest managers in the industry.

Doug became a father to his daughter, Jocelyn, in 1980. In 1992, he met Anita Keser, the love of his life and his partner for the years that followed. He embraced Anita’s sons, Jonathan and Nicholas, and loved them dearly.

A true jack of all trades and, in many ways, a master of them all, Doug approached every job, project and challenge with determination, skill and a passion for doing things well.

He was happiest outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, or simply taking in the beauty around him. It was where he found peace and where many of his favourite memories were made.

Doug will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, even temperament, incredible capability, and the many lives he touched along the way. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, hard work and countless memories shared with family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 19th at the Kamloops Curling Club from 1-6 pm.
