In Loving Memory
Karen Rebecca Sondergaard

It is with great sadness and grief that we announce the passing of our dear mother Karen Sondergaard after her brave and courageous fight against cancer. Karen was born in Vernon, BC but grew up in Vancouver where she went to school to be a nurse. She met her husband Vernon in Vancouver; they fell in love and married. She gave up her career as a nurse to be a stay-at-home mom to their four children. Through out their later years they lived within the interior of BC in 100 Mile House then to Logan Lake. In 2005 they moved to Kamloops, but Vernon (husband) passed away from cancer not long after the move. Karen adopted a couple older cats from the SPCA to keep her company; she liked to adopt the older cats because they often got overlooked for the kittens. She liked to donate to the SPCA, Canadian Wildlife Society, Cancer Society and Chrons Society. Karen did volunteer work at the Food Bank for a few years and after that the Royal Inland Hospital Thrift Store for 8 years and became an Auxiliary member in 2008. She enjoyed the social part of volunteering at the thrift store and that the money was going to a good cause. One of her favorite things to do was going to watch her grandkids and great grandkids sports activities and school performances.
Karen leaves behind her daughter Shannon Roberts (Ken), grandson Tristan Roberts, granddaughter Carly-Rae Roberts (Mack) great grandchildren Madison and Linden, granddaughter Courtenay Tromp (Byron) great grandsons Beau and Cooper, grandson Tyler Roberts, son Bradley Sondergaard (Randi) granddaughter Cailey, daughter Mary Anne Hartford (Bill), and daughter Melodie Gosling (Kyle).
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Karen’s name to the Kamloops SPCA.
Mother….I can’t believe you are gone. You were always there with an ear to listen in good times and not so good times. I wish we could sit out on the deck and have a tea or a beer and chat and watch the birds and listen to the creek again. I still feel like I need to stop and pick you up to go to the grandkid’s sports or their shows or just go out for something to do. I miss every weekend you would come up and spend an afternoon, dinner and some laughs. You are in my thoughts and heart everyday, Shannon
Mother…..Miss the visits, dinners and good chitchat, love Bradley
Mother….I miss you mother and think about you every day, Mary
Mother dear….you will always be in my heart and in my soul. I will forever love you with all my being, I miss you so much, I miss watching our favorite British drama programs together. I miss our holidays together on the Sunshine coast, I miss talking to you every day on the phone and your kindness and patience. You are and will always be my best friend. I miss you, Melodie
“Mother dear, you were a friend like not other in the world. No one
will ever be the same as you – patient kind and true. You are gone
from our sight, but not from out hearts:

Remember Christmas at the farm ? Kids all running around like unhinged lunatics? You and my mom in the kitchen preparing endless meals? I’ll bet it sounded like fun at the planning stages and then reality hit! The screaming, the chaos, the food, the piles of dirty dishes. Gosh it was fun!
I know my mom loved having you there. Sane adult conversation at last, I’m convinced that’s what she was thinking. Sure would be fun to turn the clock back and do it all over again. Good memories 🤎
