In Loving Memory of
Walter Andrew JOHNSON
Walter Andrew Johnson, 86, of Vernon passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026.
Walter (Wally) was born in Mayview, Sask. to William & Zita Johnson and grew up in Cudworth and Wakaw. He married his wife, Pat, in Saskatoon in 1963 and they moved to BC in 1967 with their two children, Doug and Liane. They lived in North Vancouver, Quesnel and Nanaimo, finally settling in Vernon in 2003 to be close to their grandchildren.
He was always happy with his chosen career with Telus, retiring after 27 years, and many of his co-workers became lifelong friends. He enjoyed hunting, especially his annual moose, deer and elk hunting trips in B.C. And, he loved hockey – a die-hard supporter of the Vancouver Canucks from the day they entered the league in 1970, never ever gave up on them.
But first and foremost, Walter cherished and protected his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia Johnson, of 63 years; his son, Douglas Johnson, and his daughter, Liane Harris; four grandchildren: Shaylene (Curtis), Shivon (Louis), Jenelle (Brendan), and Stevan (Alissa); eight great grandchildren: Maya, Lincoln, Emerson, Henry, Theodore, Mason, Demi and Walker; his brother, Ray (Klara); sister, Dianne (Rick) and sister, Maureen; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
He will be remembered as a gentle, patient and kind man with a warm smile and great sense of humour. A funeral mass will take place for Walter on Saturday, September 12th at St. James Catholic Church in Vernon at 11:00 a.m.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the nurses on the 7th Floor of Polson Tower for their kindness and tender care, going above and beyond, during Walter’s final days. Memorial donations may be made to Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.
