Fenny Reink

The family of Fenny Reink, a long time resident of Armstrong, BC, wish to inform you of her
peaceful passing at Brandt’s Creek Mews, Kelowna, on July 31, 2026, at the age of 94.
Fenny was born in Enschede, Netherlands, to Pieter and Jennigje Jans, the second of 9
children. She lived through the difficult years of WW11, even having her school bombed one
day when all the children were home for lunch. She left school after grade 7, to work at a
textile factory.

While working here, she caught the eye of co-worker, Arend Reink. They married on July 9,
1954, then emigrated to Canada. This meant spending their honeymoon in separate ladies
and men’s sleeping quarters on ‘cruise’ across the Atlantic. They docked in Quebec City with
2 suitcases holding all their possessions. Following a train trip across Canada the young
couple settled in Edmonton, AB. While in Edmonton they welcomed 2 daughters, Susan, in 1955 and Jenny in 1957, into their family. Following a move to Vancouver later in 1957, another daughter, Jane was born in 1961, and then a son, Peter, in 1962.

Eventually they settled in Armstrong (1967), where they purchased the Hope Bakery in 1969 which they built into a thriving business. Dad was the baker while mom managed the front end and all 4 of us kids had our first job there. Mom taught us good work ethics, which served us well through the years.

Mom bowled at Armstrong Lanes for many years. The family was active in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. She loved flowers, always tending a large flower bed, as well as a vegetable garden. Card games were a constant source of competition and fun with family and friends. Her highlight of every summer was the 5 days she spent in a rustic cabin at Bolean Lake, first with dad and us 4 kids, then with kids, spouses and grandchildren. There was lots of fishing, relaxing, card games, laughs and just enjoying each other.

In retirement mom volunteered at Armstrong Red Cross Loan Cupboard, participated in monthly Cash Crib at Armstrong Legion, went to a weekly knitting club and was active in both Armstrong and Enderby Senior’s Center. But what gave her the most joy was lawn bowling in Vernon where she (and dad)won many tournaments. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Arend, in 2009, son Peter, in 2018, and infant grandson Brent, in 1984.

Left to remember and miss her are her children: Sue (Rob) Powell, Jenny (aka Marianne) Reink, Jane (Gus) Sigurdson and daughter-in-law Denise Reink; grandchildren James(Amelia), Ryan (Kelsey), Timothy, Amanda (Will) and Len (Reese); great grandchildren Romy, Sebastion, Ethan, Declan, Owen, Clara, Liam, Rylan, Oaklyn.

An afternoon of remembrance will be held at a later date in the common room of Green Valley Estates Apartment where mom lived very happily for many years, making many friends and memories.
