In Loving Memory

Mattheus Antonius VandenRaadt

On June 17, 2026, at the age of 90 Years, Mattheus was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour.

He was pre-deceased in life by his wife, Helena, in 1984, and by numerous Friends and Family.

He is survived by his Sons, Matthew (Valerie) and John (Lorelei), as well as his grandchildren, Toni Anne, Mason James, Courteny (Jordan), Taylor (Brett), Samuel, Kennedy (Tristan), and his Great Grandson, Erik.

Born in Spaarwoude, North Holland, he spent his early life as the Son of a dairy farmer, learning the value of hard work. Although his childhood was during the Nazi Occupation of Holland during World War II, he managed to grow up playing football (soccer) and playing along dikes and dunes.

After serving 3 years in the Dutch Military in the early 1950’s, he set his sights on Canada, where his older Brother had settled.

In 1957, he landed at Montreal and worked his way West to Alberta, working on various ranches and farms. In the 1960’s, he found his true Love, Helena Elizabeth Sieben. They were married in 1962.

Working for Poole Construction, he worked on the construction of the Husky Tower (Calgary Tower), during the concrete phase, and in 1969, graduated from SAIT with a Red Seal in Master Carpentry.

He went on to start his own business, building many homes in the Okanagan Valley and the Fraser Valley. He also worked on many venues for Expo ’86 in Vancouver, BC. He finished his career working for The Government of Canada at several Armed Forces Bases in the Lower Mainland of B.C., as a General Maintenance Technician.

Finally, retiring back to the Okanagan Valley, he settled in Vernon, B.C.

He built his final house along Kalamaka Lake. He lived out his days in the Okanagan sun. He was a passionate green thumb and enjoyed lawns and gardens.

We would like to thank the Care Staff of The Gateby Care Centre and especially the Third Floor Nursing Staff.
