In Loving Memory
Ruth Emily Miller

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Emily Miller of Kamloops, BC, on March 8th, 2026, at 88 years of age. Ruth is survived by her children Leigh (Doug) Laursen of Kamloops, BC, Shelley (Jonathan) Miller of Quadra Island, BC, Kenna Miller of Quesnel, BC, and Glenn (Celine) Miller of Edmonton, AB, as well as six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her brother Ken Stokstad, and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by Elsa Louise McIntosh, and her parents Svend & Emily Stokstad.
Mom was born in 1937 in Elk Point, AB. When she was young the family moved to the Bridge Lake, BC, area. The family then moved from there to Kamloops, where Mom resided for the remainder of her life. She loved Kamloops and loved taking us to Riverside Park, where she taught us to swim in the river.
Her working years were spent doing various jobs: bookkeeping, banking, Harper Ski Hill, and at a very young age an usher at the movie theatre. Her passions were bike riding, walking, sitting in the sunshine, and being outdoors; in the latter years she would walk to Peterson Creek, she called this her “going to church.” She loved the mountains, seeing them and being near to them.
Mom also had a creative side; she loved to crochet and most of the family members are the recipients of her handmade afghans. She also took courses in painting and making pine needle baskets. She took us for hikes up in the hills, behind her home, and got involved in sports that we all enjoyed.
Mom was also an avid berry picker; she picked berries from the Sunshine Coast, all the way to the mountains of Valemount – all of us kids were involved and love berry picking to this day.
There will be no formal ceremony, but think of Ruth the next time you pick from a berry bush, or hike through Peterson Creek.
Special thank you to Dr. Tsuchiya and her staff, the many professionals at RIH, Overlander Senior’s Home staff, Shirley & Lloyd Redden, and many others.
