In Loving Memory
Michael Wayne Cunningham

With sorrow and love, we share the passing of Michael Wayne Cunningham, of Kamloops, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the age of 91 years. May he join his beloved Carol Cunningham in their next chapter together.
He leaves behind his and Carol’s children: Valerie, Elizabeth (Larry), Richard (Joy); Marty (Julie), Natalie (Rod); his grandchildren: Stephanie, Tony, Gabrielle, Zanne (Stephen), Isaac, Dae, Nathaniel (Page), Joshua, Jami (Grant), Nikkita (Bryan), Netanya (Evan); 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; his sister Donna and her children.
He is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Carol, of 37 years; her son, Cory; and his daughter, Patricia.
Wayne Cunningham was born on July 27, 1934, in Ottawa, ON, to Lawrence Andrew Cunningham and Thelma Elizabeth (née Doyle). After high school, he attended Carleton University, where he earned a degree in English. He went on to dedicate his career to post-secondary education, holding teaching and leadership roles at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) in Calgary; Georgian College in Barrie, ON; Grant MacEwan Community College in Edmonton; Cariboo College in Kamloops; and East Kootenay Community College in Cranbrook, BC. Between his roles at Cariboo College and East Kootenay College, he served as the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Arts Board. It was during his years at Cariboo College that he met the love of his life, and future wife, Carol.
Wayne and Carol ultimately retired to Kamloops, where Wayne continued his love of literature by writing book reviews for various outlets, including Daily News Kamloops, January Magazine, Foreword Reviews, Books in Canada, and Canadian Book Review. In his later years, he found enjoyment in family, friends, puzzles, the law, and expanding his knowledge of the sciences after a lifetime devoted to the arts. Throughout his life, he instilled a love of stories in his family, who will miss the way he guided them towards the next good book.
In place of flowers or cards, please donate to your favourite charity. His service will be held in the Spring with a date to be determined.
