In Loving Memory
Kayd Ryden McKay

With extremely broken hearts, we share the passing of our beloved son and brother Kayd Ryden McKay. Kayd passed suddenly on his motorcycle in Kamloops, BC on the 23rd of August 2025 at the young age of 18 years.
Kayd was born on November 13th, 2006, in Stony Plain AB. Throughout his life he spent time living between British Columbia and Alberta. He touched many lives and created lifelong friendships along the way.
Kayd had big dreams, a bigger heart and a great love for life. From a very young age he developed a passion for anything extreme and everything outdoors. He always said he had “a need for speed” and expressed that by creating a life of fun and adventure he felt fulfilled, happy and at peace. He spent his spare time alongside friends and family enjoying music, camping, fishing, biking, skateboarding and snowboarding. Together they created memories that will be cherished forever.
Kayd was a very hardworking and driven young man. He attended Valleyview Secondary School in Kamloops where he graduated early in 2024 to begin working in the electrical trade.
Kayd was currently in his second year of earning his journeyman electrician ticket at Thompson River University School of Trade and Technology. Kayd had been working for this past year as an apprentice electrician at Summit Electric which both he and his family were very proud of.
Kayd will be fiercely missed by all those whose lives he touched in his 18 years but none more than his devoted parents Angela and Dan, father Cory and adoring sister Kiva. Kayd will also be missed immensely by his extended family including his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins; his tribe of chosen aunties, uncles and cousins; and numerous friends and colleagues.
Although taken far too young, Kayd’s family finds comfort knowing that his last moments were possibly some of the best of his beautiful life. He left us doing something he loved alongside his best friend.
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” – Maya Angelou
A celebration of Kayd’s life will be held on Friday, September 26th, 2025, from 1:30-3:30pm at the Thompson River University Horticulture Gardens located at 1030 University Drive, Kamloops, BC.
Following the service, all are invited to come together for a casual evening to continue honouring Kayd by enjoying food, drinks, and sharing laughter and memories. Please join us at Bright Eye Brewing, located at 292 Tranquille Road, Kamloops, BC from 5:00-9:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to a GoFundMe that has been set up by close friends of Kayd’s family. The proceeds of this fund will go toward the immediate cost of Kayd’s celebration of life. Additional funds will be placed into a trust for his younger sister Kiva.
