In Loving Memory

Edward Francis Kyllo

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Edward “Ted” Francis Kyllo, was born on July 8, 1940, in High River, AB. He left this world to join his beloved traveling partner for their next great adventure on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

After graduating Grade 12, Ted joined the Royal Canadian Navy and trained as an electrician. After 5 years, he was discharged and went on to work for an electric motor repair shop in Calgary, AB, before getting a job  at Hudson Bay Oil & Gas in Edson, AB, through a supervisor who knew the family in Turner Valley. He worked at the Edson Gas Plant for over 30 years, earning his credentials as a master electrician and remaining there throughout many changes in ownership.

It was in Edson that he met Aline, a schoolteacher with the Yellowhead School Division.  They were married on July 4, 1970. Aline retired from teaching at age 55 years, and Ted followed several years later. They spent the next 14 years as snowbirds, traveling in their fifth-wheel or motorhome to California, Arizona, including a 6-week trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Further travels took them to Costa Rico, Belize, and New Zealand, with their best trip taking them to Australia for 2.5 months.

Ted was a real do-it-yourself Mr. Fix-It and handyman; he and his father built a house on an acreage a few miles outside of Edson in which the family lived for more than 10 years. He also added a greenhouse onto the garage, and even crafted his own ‘sleigh’ to be pulled behind the snowmobile in the winter. He also spent many years enjoying time fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was always interested in history as well as current events, and he enjoyed time spent playing cards or completing ‘word seek’ puzzles in front of the TV. Ted shared with Aline a generous heart and spirit, often quick to offer aid or a shoulder to those in need. His friends and family will fondly remember his good-natured teasing, corny (sometimes colorful) jokes and his devilishly mischievous grin.

Ted is survived by his son Dale (Clearwater, BC) and grandkids, Aiden and Kirsten (Edmonton, AB); daughter Valerie and husband Braam (Edmonton, AB);  brother Gerry and wife Sue (Lethbridge, AB); brother Rick and wife Claudia (Calgary, AB); brother Leo and wife Janice (Calgary, AB); sister-in-law Connie (Fort St. John, BC). He was predeceased by his wife, Aline; his parents, Norman and Francis; and his brothers, Donnie and Mike. Ted was a longtime friend of Lois & Bill W.

We are very grateful for the exceptional care and dedication of the healthcare professionals at Carrington Place (Chartwell); the nursing staff, care aids and doctors at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2W; and the doctors and specialists involved in his care. A Celebration of Life will be held September 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Cypress Funeral & Cremation, 2980 Smith Drive, Armstrong, BC, with a reception to follow. For those who cannot make it in person, a livestream will be available at https://livestream.cypressfuneral.ca/. Donations in lieu of flowers are requested to be sent to the BC Lung Foundation, 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC, V6H 2K2 or the Alzheimer Society of B.C., 300-828 W. 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. I just saw this today.
Ted was my first cousin. I did not know him well but he gave me his sailors hat from his time in the navy when I was young. I still have it.
