In Loving Memory
Lorraine Doris Bru

It is with deep sadness that the family of Lorraine Doris Bru, announce her peaceful passing on July 30, 2025 in Vernon, BC. Mom was born on April 5th, 1928 in the hamlet of Jackfish, SK to Joseph and Eva L’Heureux. She was the last surviving member of a large French-Canadian family having been predeceased by her parents and six siblings. Lorraine was also predeceased by her husband Clem in 2009, to whom she was married for 59 years and her grandson Mason in 2016.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Juliette (Dave) Cunningham and family Nicole and Chad Cooney, Carmen Porter and daughter Nadine, Ernie Bru and daughters Leia Morris and Brittany Clary, Theresa Bru and family Maela and Brayden Bru, Susan Bru and Corine (Mark) Wasyliuk and numerous great grandchildren.
Our mom was very resilient, hard working and resourceful. In the lean years she could create clothes and delicious meals from very little. She had a great sense of humour that was especially appreciated by many while working at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She loved to dress in costumes and she took part in many skits as Schubert Centre after her retirement. She loved to dance and along with her sister Laurette could be counted on for a little jig at family get-togethers. Mom also loved her many feline companions over the years. She was loyal and caring to those she loved. After moving here in 1966 from North Battleford, SK, Mom and Dad returned faithfully for 19 years to spend their two weeks vacation with our Grandpa Joe and Grandma Eva until their passing.
We would like to thank staff at Heritage Square for the care and compassion Mom received these past 8 years.
To honour her lifetime dedication to her Christian faith, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on August 12th at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Vernon.

Your mom was so special. I will always remember her line-dancing, and how funny she was when she performed in skits for Schubert members. Her laughter and sense of fun was so contagious and audiences fell in love with her!
I marvelled at her strong sense of self on the stage, her uninhibited acting, and her endless energy in her senior years.
I feel privileged to have known her, and wish peace for all her family who will feel her loss so deeply.
Jim Carrey once said: Grief is not just an emotion—it’s an unraveling,
a space where something once lived but is now gone.
It carves through you, leaving a hollow ache where love once resided.
In the beginning, it feels unbearable, like a wound that will never close.
But over time, the raw edges begin to mend.
The pain softens, but the imprint remains—a quiet reminder of what once was.
… May your sweet memories
support you in your grief…

Lorraine was a first cousin to my dad(Louie Alain) and I loved seeing her over the years when in Vernon visiting. Also I will never get out of my head the funny dances with the broom at the big reunion. Her jigging was so enjoyable. She leaves a beautiful legacy behind. RIP with all the family.
Our condolences to all her family.
