In Loving Memory

Joanne Irene Soberlak

Born May 16, 1938 (Trail, BC)

Passed away July 11, 2025 (Kamloops, BC)

Our beautiful, kind and loving Mother passed away at Trinity Hospice (Overlander). She left us to join her husband of 64 years John, who passed away a mere 8 months ago. They shared an everlasting love, and we are at peace knowing they are together again.

Joanne was a proud Mother of 4. Jana (Darcy), Tracy, Kari (Brent), and Peter (Amy). Grandsons Justin (Yalena), Ben (Aly), Brayman, Kelby, Brady, Jake, and Cole. Great-granddaughters Kenley, Bexley , and Tahlia.

Mom grew up in a very musical family & started playing the piano around the age of 4. This was her passion and talent throughout her life. She obtained her Music Degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto in 1962. Joanne was also a School Teacher and Real Estate Agent. However, her main career was Wife and Mother. She created a stable, loving home that was filled with laughter, love, music, and wonderful memories. We are so grateful and proud to have called her our Mom.

Joanne is survived by her Sister’s Bernie Jean Worobey (Salmon Arm) Marilyn McComber (Kamloops).

From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank Dr. Trudeau and all our Mom’s caring Dr’s throughout the years. All the Nurses and Caregivers at Trinity who are truly Angels here on earth. She felt so much love and support from you and we will be forever grateful to you all. We will miss her deeply but will hold her in our hearts forever. The advice she left us with was “hug the ones you love every day and always be kind”.

We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of my dear cousin, Joanne. I knew her well during our younger years when Joanne lived with her parents in Castlegar. Our mothers were sisters in the Wiig family and we often visited, had lovely suppers together and sang until ‘the cows came home’! In our two families everyone was expected to contribute something toward making music and the memories and love this generated was grand! Goodbye my dear cousin. Life must have been lonely for you once John passed away.

“She created a stable, loving home that was filled with laughter, love, music, and wonderful memories.”‘

That’s for sure. Some of my happiest memories are living, while attending summer music camp in Kamploops as a kid, in that home full of laughter, love, music…not to mention way more TV channels than the one (CHBC) I had at home in Salmon Arm! It was summer, and the living was easy in the Soberlak home. I will miss my Auntie Joanne so much, and my Uncle John too. My condolences to you, Jana, Tracy, Kari, Peter, and all your families. You are all a testament to your wonderful mom and dad.

    Love,

    Mike
