Norma Jean Bechthold

Norma Jean Bechthold passed away on January 18, 2025, at the age of 92 years.  She was born on August 25, 1932, in Bentley, Alberta, to William and Anna Wetzel.

Norma graduated from high school in 1951 from Canadian Union College in Lacombe, Alberta.  She worked as a Pharmacy Assistant, then as a Dental Assistant and Receptionist for many years in Calgary.

She married her high school sweetheart Harvey Bechthold on June 30,1953, a marriage full of love and devotion lasting almost 72 years.

Norma’s life was full – as well as bringing up her 2 daughters she also looked after foster children, providing rides for people needing Dr. appts, being active in her church.  She also had many interests – walking, jogging, reading, puzzles, birdwatching, skating, curling, knitting, sewing, cooking, baking, playing games.  Of course, as she grew older reading and puzzles were her past times but she would always love to visit.

Norma is survived by her husband Harvey of Vernon, daughter Cindy (Brian) Brucks of Vernon, daughter Carmen (Brad) Brousson of Chilliwack, brother Roger Wetzel of Calgary AB, as well as 7 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

Norma’s life was a testament to love, kindness and a confidence in God even though she had many health challenges.  We know we will see her again on that great resurrection day when Jesus returns!

The family wishes to thank Dr. Colyn Pienaar for his dedicated and compassionate care over the years.  We also wish to thank our Pastor, John Masigan of the Vernon Seventh Day Adventist Church for his many visits and heartfelt prayers.

Norma’s Celebration of Life was held February 15, 2025.  It can still be viewed on the Vernon Seventh Day Adventist Church Facebook page until March 15, 2025
