In Loving Memory

Mike Wolansky

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father & husband, Michael Wolansky, at age 89. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family on July 30th, 2024. Mike is survived by his children Jeff (Therese Dasilva) Wolansky, Sherry Wolansky, Tracey Wolansky (Marc Faubert) and his wife Dina. Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren Chris Tompkins, Jamie Wolansky, great-grandchildren Hailey & Riley, step-children Eugene (Juanita) Devries of Grand Prairie, AB, Darlene (Kevin) Keeping of Grand Prairie, AB, Lorie (Darcy) Matheson) of Grand Prairie, AB, Shawnna Devries of Grand Prairie, AB, and Dawn Devries of Surrey, BC, step-grandchildren Brandon Keeping, Skyler Keeping, Morgan Matheson, Eric Matheson, Gabriel Devries, Jacob Devries, and step-great-grandchildren Kaydence Matheson and Rylee Matheson. Mike was predeceased by his brother Steve.

Mike was born in Mundare, AB, on October 8th, 1934. After moving to BC, Mike was employed with CP Railway from July 1956 to March 1990. He was an active member of Kamloops Elks Lodge 44 for 33 years, serving as President for 3 separate terms. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, adventurer and horseman; spending many years on the racetrack with his beloved horses and having the notable accomplishment of winning the Canadian Derby with Hurricane Benny in 1990.

Mike enjoyed travelling with Dina in his later years – destinations included Ukraine where he was able to see where his father lived, Holland, across Canada in the RV, Alaska, as well as Arizona for several years. Mike loved going to Mexico when they visited Arizona. They would venture over the border almost every other day, because Mike got on so well with the people down there. One time, when camped on the beach in Mexico, Mike, Dina and friends went all the way down the Baja as far you can go. Even after they stopped travelling into the US, they loved camping all around BC with friends from the Elks and their neighborhood.

Mike will be most remembered for his hard work and ingenuity.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will take place on August 10th, 2024, at 1:00pm, at the Elks Hall #102, 1121 12th Street, Kamloops, BC.

    My deepest sympathy to all.
I knew Mike since 1970, he’d take me horse back riding and out to his place on Paul Lake to do some fishing. He even gave me some pointers at the race track.

    Well worn memories Mike.
