Bill Holt

William (Bill) Holt, 80, of Cherryville, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on October 27, 2023, after a courageous battle with Heart and Respiratory illness. 

Bill’s life was deeply rooted in the logging industry.  At 15, he embarked on a career in forestry. He worked as a faller for decades, facing the dangers of the job with a fearlessness that earned the respect of his peers. While he lived and worked in various places in BC, Bill developed a profound connection with the land and people of Lumby and Cherryville. In addition, he found joy in fishing, hunting and lumberjack competitions. He competed in logger sport shows all over the province and excelled at numerous events, but loved the underhand chop.

Bill demonstrated a profound sense of responsibility, a strong work ethic, and a deep love for his family and friends. In later years, Bill expressed immense gratitude to his brother John, who cared for him as his health declined. Bill’s legacy will continue through the stories and memories he leaves behind.

Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Diane, and grandson Marcus. He is survived by his second wife, Catherine, his children, Roma (Lane), Marianne, Daniel (Jen) and Robert (Jennifer), his grandchildren Andrea (Jason), Terrilane (Michael), Joshua, Dawn, Delano, Simone, Merideth and his great-grandson Atlas. 

Bill’s life will be celebrated on November 4, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the White Valley Community Centre in Lumby. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lumby Lions Club in Bill’s memory.
