Margaret Carol – Jean Gabert

July 7, 1942 - June 29, 2023

In Loving Memory

Margaret Carol – Jean Gabert

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom and
grandmother, Carol Gabert (nee Margaret Carol-Jean Weir) on June 29th, 2023, with
her daughters at her side.

Carol was born on July 7th,1942 to Fred and Leila Weir in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan
where she grew up and remained until her June 30th, 1962 marriage to Keith
Gabert.

Soon after, Carol and Keith moved 27 times in 4 years as they followed Keith at his
Power Line Construction job with Saskatchewan Power. During this time they quickly
had 4 daughters in 5 years.

In 1967 the family moved to the US where they lived in several places, until their final
move to Kelowna, B.C. in 1975. There, while raising their 4 girls, Carol was the
“official scorekeeper” for hundreds of softball games while the girls played and Keith
coached.

Carol enjoyed working at the RBC branch in Rutland for years where she maintained
many friendships. Carol also enjoyed golf and curling on both ladies’ night and mixed
leagues with Keith. Mom also raised thousands of dollars for the Heart and Stroke
Foundation in over 30 years of dedicated fundraising. She enjoyed many camping
‘road trips’, golfing and curling with her great friend Sharon Reid.
After retiring in 1997, Carol and Keith added travelling to their activities and enjoyed
visiting many places with friends, including Europe and Mexico. Winters were spent
golfing in California with extended trips home spent gambling through Nevada.
Annual trips were made to Saskatchewan to visit family and friends, including lifelong
friends Roberta and Jean.

Carol could often be seen with a light beer in her hand, and was always willing to
invite you in for a visit.

We think Mom missed her daily visits with Dad so much she went to join him for their
61st wedding anniversary on June 30th. It brings us comfort that they are together
again.

We miss them both immensely.

Carol is predeceased by her devoted husband of 60 years Keith, father Fred, mother
Leila, brothers-in-law Myron and Russ and sister-in-law Shirley and son-in-law
George.
She leaves behind daughters Tracy, Dawn, Jamie (Brad), and Robin, grandchildren

Doug, Hayley, Shalayne, Kenzie, Tessa, Gracie, Connor and Calvin, siblings Lucille
and Don, as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.

We would like to thank the care staff at Three Links Manor who cared for and loved
Mom in the nearly 2 years she was living there. Special thanks to Care Aides
Rebecca, Stacey, Mark and Mallory and nurse Agnieszka. You truly made a
difference for our mom and we appreciate the compassionate care that you provided
every day.

There will be no service at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke
Foundation. You are also invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the
family’s on-line obituary @ www.cypressfuneral.ca

My sweet sweet Carol, I will forever miss your beautiful smile. I will forever miss visiting you in your little home when I go back to work. I am so thankful I had the pleasure of meeting you and Keith and I find peace and happiness that you two are back together again. To the girls, thank you for putting your trust in me to take care of your mom. I love her and Keith immensely. So sorry to hear the news that I received the text message from a few workers. May she rest in peace. Was a pleasure to meet you all. Take care!
